Something missing from Vista
In the last week I have noticed something that has disappeared from 32-bit Vista on my UX. A few weeks ago when we took a weekend trip I was using the UX as a handheld. To preserve battery life I was putting it into a stasis mode that saved the information on my status and then shut the computer down. When I reactivated it and entered my password it immediately returned... more »

Favorite New Programs
My favorite new programs/services for 2008: 1. Evernote - Great on Mac and Windows, improving on Windows Mobile. 2. Dropbox- Outstanding backup and synchronization solution. 3. Things - Best GTD solution for the Mac. 4. Stanza - eBook reader for Mac, Windows and iPhone/iPod Touch I paid for Evernote and Dropbox as soon as the programs graduated from... more »

Secure password storage solution for Windows
Now that Pimlical is on Windows, the next thing I need to turn my UX into my next generation handheld is a secure "electronic wallet" solution for storing and managing my collection of passwords. I have used Password Store, a fairly basic but very secuxre (128 bit encryption) solution on my Palm for... more »

"drawn-out suicide"
About the time I joined this group, almost everybody was a Palm user. However, even the surviving Palm users haven't seen anything fit to replace the their current units which mostly more than 4 years old and I think that most of the others have jumped ship for WM, Symbian or iPhones. To be blunt, although the Sony Clie that was my last Palm OS device was more elegant, my... more »

Interesting blog entry by Charlie Stross on PDAs
Charlie Stross's blog entry for December 14 is very interesting, his story about PDAs is pretty similar to most of ours. [link]

flash card annoyance
I gotta say, it's really annoying that phones have moved away from SD card. There's a SD card slot on most laptops - and it's the most common on cameras. It's phones that are the odd one out. Don't get me started on Apple :-D Being able to load an SD card up with videos (and youtube-dl) before a long flight to watchin on my palm, is much quicker than converting and... more »
