Fiber product topologies
Dear NG, Here's a problem that I've been thinking about and it must actually be easy.. but I can't seem to figure it out straightforward as of yet.. Let X,Y,Z be compact spaces (not necessarily Hausdorff) .. and suppose there are continuous surjective maps X -->> Z , Y -->> Z One has the fiber product of X x_Z Y... more »

Discrete Math HELP! Graph Theory
any pointers on these please help get me started: 1. (a) how many labeled graphs are there on n vertices? (b) how many of these have exactly m edges? 2. Are any of the following degree sequences graphic? If so, draw the graphs...if not, explain why. If you determine the sequence is graphic, work backwards to draw the graph.... more »

Hopf bifurcation normal form not predicting oscillation frequency
Hi, I have a 2D system (Hodgkin-Huxley style equations) that undergoes a Hopf bifurcation at some parameter mu0. For mu < mu0, the system is stable (both eigenvalues are negative). The normal form of the Hopf bifurcation is rdot = d*mu*r + a1*r^3 + ... thetadot = w + c*mu + b1*r^2 + ... where w is the non-zero complex part of the eigenvalue at the... more »

solution for matrix repeated multiplication
I've been working on a problem, and got the following solution sequence: A(n) = the sum of all numbers in [4 2;2 1]^n so A(0) = 2, A(1) = 8, A(2) = 34, A(3) = 148, etc. Is there a way of reducing this expression to a more direct formula? Now, i solved the same problem in another way and got the recurrence relation:... more »

Fourier series for computer output
If the processor is writing the data to the Hard disk as 1's and 0's Ex:- 1011110111001............01101 0100.......[millions of 1's and 0's] Is it possible to handle this type of data, so that it can be written as, "Fourier series" if not, where's the problem lies ? Thanks.
